REGISTRAR OF VOTERS TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENTS, TAP (SAN)

Introduction

Alameda County Registrar of Voters is seeking temporary staff to fill the following positions:

• Election Support Staff - to assist voters and have the ability to read, write and speak English and Tagalog, Vietnamese, Spanish, and Chinese fluently.  In addition, qualified applicants must possess data entry skills, strong customer service skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment.

• Candidate Support Staff – to assist Candidate Services staff.  Qualified applicants must possess strong customer service skills, excellent secretarial skills and be able to compose letters and type 40 words per minute.

• Data Entry Staff - provide data entry services for the Registrar of Voters.  Qualified applicants must have strong customer service skills and be able to type 40 words per minutes.

• Vote by Mail Window Staff- Qualified applicants must have strong customer service skills, general clerical skills, data entry skills, with the ability to type 40 words per minute. 

• Vote by Mail Processors – Qualified applicants will have strong numerical filing skills; the ability to lift 25 pounds and be able to stand for long periods of time.

• Openers – Qualified applicants must have strong numerical filing skills; the ability to lift 25 pounds and be able to sit for long periods of time.

• Remake Staff – Qualified applicants must have strong numerical filing skills; be able to lift 25 pounds and be able to stand and sit for long periods of time.

• Warehouse Staff – Qualified applicants will have excellent customer service skills and the ability to perform manual labor and be able to lift 30 – 70 pounds.  In addition, Warehouse staff will be required to have general clerical skills with strong attention to detail.

• Vote Count Room Staff – Qualified applicants must have strong numerical filing skills; the ability to perform some manual labor tasks and the ability to lift 30 pounds.  In addition, the successful candidate must be able to stand for long periods of time.

• Recruiters – Qualified applicants must have strong customer service skills, recruitment and telemarketing skills and excellent data entry skills.

• Classroom Helpers – Qualified applicants must possess excellent customer skills and strong data entry skills.  Successful applicants must possess valid CA driver’s license and their own transportation.

Temporary Staff for Registrar of Voters may be assigned to a variety of shifts and locations within Alameda County.  Applications will only be accepted ON-LINE from THURSDAY, MARCH 8, 2012 12 p.m. TO FRIDAY, MARCH 9, 2012 at 5 p.m.

DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, incumbents are assigned a variety of general clerical duties to fill in for various temporary needs countywide.


DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

This class consists of positions that are filled on a temporary basis through the Alameda County Temporary Assignment Pool (TAP). Human Resource Services will be responsible for placing incumbents on assignments within departments and other agencies. Assignments may vary from a minimum of four hours and generally not exceed 18 months. The Clerical Assistant-SAN (TAP) differs from the Clerk Intermittent series in that the latter functions as an assistant to regular full-time clerical personnel whereas the former performs the full range of duties assigned to a regular county clerical position on a temporary basis.

The Clerical Assistant I-SAN (TAP) is designated as a 75-hour class.

We are searching for candidates with the following attributes:

• Demonstrated ability to learn new equipment, procedures, and immediately apply them to tasks at hand.
• Commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, team members and customers.
• Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks to ensure that they are completed in a timely manner.
• Ability to accurately complete work and tasks while paying close attention to all details.
• Proven safety record as demonstrated by the ability to identify safety issues and immediately report concerns and/or take corrective action.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The equivalent of one year of full-time clerical experience.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge of:

• Modern office practices and procedures.
• Basic office automation and computer functions.
• Basic elements of correct English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation.


Ability to:

• Interpret and apply rules and regulations.
• Follow written and oral instructions.
• Calculate basic mathematical problems.
• Adapt quickly to new work environments.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and the public.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Maintain electronic and/or physical files and databases.
• Organize and prioritize.
