THIS IS A NEW PROMOTIONAL ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. 

The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended. Qualified applicants must be current county employees and have completed the equivalent of six months of continuous service following a regular appointment in the Alameda County classified service (non-classified includes the District Attorney’s Office, the Medical Center, and the Superior Court) by Monday, December 4, 2017. 

A regular appointment does not include provisional, TAP (Temporary Assignment Pool), or STEP-UP appointments.

DESCRIPTION

THE POSITION

Under close supervision, to learn to perform professional, human resources management work in a County department or agency assisting, developing and maintaining a program of human resources management and administration including, disability and reasonable accommodation case management, recruitment/staffing, workforce planning, training and development, examination development and administration, employee selection, position classification, performance evaluations, affirmative action, disciplinary and grievance procedures and employee relations; and to perform other related duties.

VACANCY

The current vacancy is within the Sheriff's Office Disability/Worker’s Compensation Unit.  However, the eligible list resulting from this recruitment may be used by any department needing to fill a vacancy.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Disability/Worker’s Compensation Unit is currently recruiting to fill a Departmental Human Resources Officer Trainee position.  The Disability/Worker’s Compensation Unit provides claims management services for industrial and non-industrial illness and injuries to over 1,600 employees, of which approximately 1,000 are sworn personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I

Experience:

The equivalent of two years of full-time experience as a Human Resources Technician or in an equivalent or higher classification performing human resources related activities in the Alameda County classified service.

Completion of the Alameda County Management Academy “Management and Supervision Certificate Program” may substitute for six (6) months of the required qualifying experience.

Or II

Education:

Possession of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience:

The equivalent of one year full time professional level human resources management experience involving compensation analysis, workforce planning, training and development, recruitment/staffing, employee relations, requiring the use of the knowledge and skills described in this specification. (Two additional years of experience may be substituted for the degree.)

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

The examination will consist of the following steps:

  1. A review of candidates' application to verify possession of minimum requirements.  Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.
  2. A written component that will be weighted as pass/fail.
  3. An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score.  The oral interview may contain situational exercises.

Candidates must attain a qualifying rating on each portion of this examination.
