Introduction

THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year, but can be extended.

DESCRIPTION

THE AGENCY

The Community Development Agency's mission is to enhance the quality-of-life of County residents and plan for the future well-being of the County's diverse communities; to balance the physical, economic, and social needs of County residents through land use planning, environmental management, neighborhood improvement, and community development; and to promote and protect agriculture, the environment, economic vitality and human health.

THE POSITION

Under supervision, performs various program support functions which do not require a license in the Agriculture/Weights and Measures Department, such as routine placement and inspection of insect detection traps, assistance with pest management functions, and the inspection of commercial scales, retail motor fuel devices and undercover test purchases.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I
Experience:

The equivalent of six months’ full-time experience with private or public agency in agricultural, biologist or agricultural pest detection work.

Or II
Education:

Satisfactory completion of three courses in either agricultural or biological science at the college level.

License:

Possession of a valid California Vehicle Operator’s License.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualification in announcement of an examination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:

Knowledge of:

• Biology of target pests.
• Basic host plant and insect identification.
• Basic operation of scales and metering devices.

Ability to:

• Keep accurate records.
• Drive safely and skillfully.
• Create, read and utilize simple diagrams and maps effectively.
• Work independently with minimum or remote supervision.
• Read and follow instructions.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Interact effectively with County employees and members of the public.
• Solve simple mathematic problems.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following steps: 1) A review of candidates' applications and supplemental questionnaires to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. 2)  An oral interview which will be weighted as 100 % of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises. CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION. We reserve the right to make changes to the announced examination components.
