THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION.  The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year, but can be extended.

  • This position requires that all candidates possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Class C Driver’s license. At the time of application, all candidates must submit evidence from the DMV showing the current status of their driving record, and proof of having a clean driving record for the previous three (3) year period. Online DMV printouts are not acceptable. Failure to upload your DMV printout will result in your disqualification.

THE PUBLIC WORKS AGENCY
 
The mission of Public Works is to enhance the quality of life for the people of Alameda County by providing a safe, well-maintained, and lasting public works infrastructure through accessible, responsive and effective services.  Public services provided by the Alameda County Public Works Agency include flood and storm water pollution control, transportation planning and design, roadway and flood control maintenance and inspection, and construction and building inspections.
 
The goals of the Agency are to keep roads safe and well maintained, provide the highest level of flood protection, provide service levels that optimize infrastructure life cycles, minimize deferred maintenance, ensure that development and construction adhere to applicable State and County rules, optimize disaster preparedness, response and recover, ensure that the Agency’s operations and services minimize negative impacts on the environment, and sustain and advance County and Agency programs through a vital business and administrative support system.

THE POSITION
 
The Auto Parts Technician, under the general supervision to requisition, receive, store, issue and control, and maintain automotive parts, supplies, accessories and related equipment to identify and select items for issue as requested service personnel and other user departments; to inspect parts and tools to ensure correctness related ;and to perform related duties as required.  Auto Parts Technicians are responsible for the procurement, storage, issuance and control of automotive equipment, parts and accessories.  Positions in this class are assigned to the Public Works Agency works and function under the general supervision of the Motor Vehicle Department.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I

The equivalent of one year of experience in the class of Supply Clerk II or an equivalent or higher level class in the Alameda classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)

Or II

The equivalent of recent work experience involving the purchasing, receiving, storing, issuing and maintaining of automotive parts, accessories and supplies;

Or

The equivalent of three years of recent work experience in the maintenance, service and repair of fleet vehicles and construction equipment, which also involved requesting or ordering related automotive parts, accessories and special tools. 

License:

Possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Class C Driver's license. Candidate must submit evidence from DMV showing current status of their license at the time of application and must have a clean driving record for the previous three-year period.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

Knowledge of:

• Automotive parts, equipment, accessories and tools used in vehicle repair and maintenance.
• Vehicle repair and maintenance procedures and terminology.
• Stock and inventory control and record-keeping systems.
• Techniques of receiving, storing and issuing supplies.
• Local automotive parts and equipment suppliers and vendors.
• Basic research and filing techniques.
• Operation of standard equipment and machinery related to the job.

Ability to:

• Keep accurate records, complete standard forms, and make simple arithmetical calculations.
• Requisition and maintain a variety of parts and related supplies.
• Work independently.
• Maintain effective working relationships.
• Read, write and speak clearly and effectively.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

The examination will consist of the following steps: A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process which is a performance examination weighted as (30%) of the candidate’s final examination score or which will be qualifying only. Those candidates scoring highest on the written exam will move on to the next step in the examination process, an oral interview which will be weighted as (70%) of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises. CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.  We reserve the right to make changes to the announced examination components.
