THIS IS A NEW PROMOTIONAL ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended. Qualified applicants must be current county employees and have completed the equivalent of six months of continuous service following a regular appointment in the Alameda County classified service by Monday, February 4, 2019. A regular appointment does not include provisional, TAP (Temporary Assignment Pool), or STEP-UP appointments.

THE AGENCY
Alameda County's General Services Agency delivers a host of support services to County departments and agencies. These services fall into several major categories: Technical — architectural, engineering, energy and hazardous materials management; Building Maintenance — building maintenance and repairs, janitorial services and minor remodeling and alterations; Construction — new facilities and major remodeling; Procurement — purchasing and contract administration; Fleet Services; Early Care and Education Planning; Human Resources, Payroll, Information Systems and Parking Administration.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications stated below, the Janitor Supervisor I will possess the following critical attributes:
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Relates to people in an open, courteous and professional manner
• Experience in inventory management
• The ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives and recommend solutions
• Commitment to exceptional customer service
• Ability to deliver clear, effective communication both verbally and in writing
• A proven safety record as demonstrated by the ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety and uphold safety standards
• Ability to train staff on all facets of janitorial maintenance
• Experience in mentoring staff and develop processes for team building
• Commitment in working with peer managers in a team environment and sharing best practices with peer managers
• An understanding organization objectives and ability to create work plans
• Relates to people in an open, courteous and professional manner.
Either I
The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in the class of Janitor or in an equivalent or higher level building maintenance class in the Alameda County classified service.
Completion of the Alameda County Management Academy “Management and Supervision Certificate Program” may substitute for six (6) months of the required qualifying experience.
Or II
The equivalent of three years of full-time janitorial experience, including the equivalent of one year in a full supervisory capacity.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
1) A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.
2) An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.

Alameda County utilizes a Civil Service Selection System founded on merit.
