PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for directing the residential program for individuals with an intellectual disability.
GUIDELINES FOR JOB CLASS USE
In a Region where primary responsibility is within Public Programs or at Southbury Training School, incumbents in this class direct the planning and organization of a variety of complex program services in one of the following areas: Day Services, Residential Programs or Family Services.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives administrative direction from the Developmental Services Regional Director (Public Programs) or other administrative official of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Directs the staff assigned to residential services.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Directs staff and operations of multi-disciplinary department providing programs for residents;
- Coordinates, plans and manages program activities;
- Formulates program goals and objectives;
- Develops or assists in development of related policy;
- Interprets and administers pertinent laws;
- Evaluates staff;
- Prepares or assists in preparation of program budget;
- Maintains contacts with individuals within and outside of program who might impact on program activities;
- Prepares reports and correspondence;
- Develops staff education programs for managerial and supervisory staff;
- Reviews all staff and/or individual incident reports and prepares corrective action plans;
- Schedules hours of work for residential directors;
- Participates in staff conferences and resident evaluation conferences;
- Reviews and approves staff reports;
- Monitors quality assurance and ICF compliance in assigned units;
- Leads the recruitment and hiring of staff, including outreach, interview and selection;
- May confer with doctors on medical services for residents;
- May inspect physical conditions of resident homes;
- May serve as a representative of faculty for public activities;
- Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience in a program for individuals with an intellectual disability in a managerial capacity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to be licensed as a registered professional nurse in Connecticut.
