In the Connecticut Airport Authority this class is accountable for performing as a specialist in coordinating the operational activities at Bradley International Airport on an assigned shift.

Works under the limited supervision of the Airport Operations Manager or other employee of higher grade.

Leads Airport Operations Assistant Specialists and other staff on an assigned shift; may exercise operational control of the airport under emergency conditions until relieved by higher authority.

• Performs specialized duties in planning and coordinating ongoing airport operations on an assigned shift;
• Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations related to safe operations of airport;
• Provides liaison among user airlines, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), fixed base operators (FBO) and all airport tenants and lessees;
• Establishes and maintains operational procedures;
• Coordinates operational activities with Emergency Services Division and airfield maintenance forces during normal and emergency conditions;
• Performs daily inspections of airside operations to ensure compliance with established safety and maintenance standards;
• Assesses runway conditions and issues Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS) to advise airlines, FAA and pilots of current field conditions;
• Establishes priorities for snow removal and coordinates snow removal operations with maintenance staff;
• Maintains currency of airport operations security and emergency logs and manuals;
• Maintains close liaison with State Police and FAA security personnel;
• Represents Airport Administrator in dealing with public or private groups or other federal, state and municipal agents;
• Prepares reports;
• May have specifically assigned responsibility to coordinate all landside ground transportation operations or terminal building operations; 
• May exercise overall command of department forces during emergency conditions on an assigned shift;
• Performs related duties as required.

Seven (7) years of experience in the aeronautical operations activities of an airport or a scheduled airline including authority and responsibility over multiple airport operations.

Three (3) years of the General Experience must have involved responsibility for the implementation of airport policies and procedures relating directly to Airside Operations and Airport Certification.

• College training in aviation management or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
  
• A Master's degree in aviation management or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to moderately disagreeable conditions on occasion such as weather conditions and loud noises.
