In the Department of Agriculture this class is accountable for supervising staff engaged in the development, promotion, regulation and inspection of agricultural businesses, production and processing plants and retail facilities for compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Receives general direction from an Agriculture Bureau Director, Agriculture Assistant Bureau Director or other employee of higher grade.

• Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of staff; 
• Provides staff training and assistance; 
• Conducts performance evaluations; 
• Determines priorities and plans unit work, establishes and maintains unit procedures; 
• Develops or makes recommendations on development of policies and standards; 
• Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; 
• Prepares reports and correspondence; 
• Interprets and explains related laws, regulations and policies to concerned parties; 
• Supervises staff and daily activities of a statewide marketing, inspection, regulatory or licensing program; 
• May provide budgetary input; 
• May assist in planning and implementation of related IT systems; 
• May speak before lay and professional groups regarding agency policies, procedures and programs; 
• Performs related duties as required.

  • principles, practices and methodologies of production, marketing, research development or processing of agricultural commodities;

Eight (8) years of experience in the marketing, research, development, production or inspection of agricultural commodities or businesses.

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been at the level of an Agriculture Marketing and Inspection Representative 2.

• College training in agriculture or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree.
• A Master’s degree in agriculture or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
