PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Consumer Protection this class is accountable for supervising staff engaged in processing license applications and renewals.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction from a Consumer Protection Division Director or other employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises professional and clerical staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of staff;
- Provides staff training and assistance;
- Conducts performance evaluations;
- Determines priorities and plans unit work;
- Establishes and maintains unit procedures;
- Develops or makes recommendations on development of policies and standards;
- Acts as liaison with operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures;
- Prepares reports and correspondence;
- Ensures efficiency of unit operations through research and analysis of workflow and licensing activity;
- Provides licensing expertise in research, planning, set-up, implementation and maintenance of centralized licensing and enforcement software systems;
- Researches and responds to complex inquiries from consumers, staff, state agencies and legislators;
- Participates in agency workflow analysis and incorporation of agency operations into integrated software solutions;
- Monitors various impacts on agency licensing and enforcement operations such as legislative or industry changes;
- Makes recommendations to incorporate systemic changes to maintain optimum operational efficiencies;
- Participates in agency-wide special projects as assigned;
- May supervise lockbox revenue system and ensure revenue processing complies with all applicable statutes and regulations;
- May supervise centralized telephone call system for consumers;
- Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Seven (7) years of experience in governmental regulatory licensing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been processing license and registration applications at the professional level in a governmental regulatory agency or in a regulated industry.
NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a License and Applications Analyst.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree.

A Master’s degree in public administration may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
