PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Correction this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks as contact person between the enterprise program and other governmental agencies to promote the purchase of various products and the utilization of the various services.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of a Correctional Enterprises Marketing Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May supervise clerical staff as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Arranges for and makes calls on city and state agency purchasing agents to acquaint them with the goods and services offered by the enterprise program;
  • Answers inquiries concerning specifications, products, costs, delivery dates and related information;
  • Answers complaints and inspects products to determine cause of complaints;
  • Makes recommendations for settlement of damage claims;
  • Speaks before interested groups to acquaint them with the enterprise programs;
  • Under the direction of marketing manager, investigates marketing potential of proposed new products and services;
  • Keeps sales and statistical records;
  • Makes reports and recommendations on the effectiveness of the program; 
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of employment in industrial sales or industrial purchasing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents are required to possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification at the time of appointment.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
