PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Division of Criminal Justice this class is accountable for receiving generalized training in the performance of a variety of complex and responsible clerical duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Initially works under the close supervision of a DCJ Secretary or other employee of higher grade; works more independently with acquired experience.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
PROCESSING:
- Receives, compiles and processes a variety of court and/or prosecutorial documents;
- Assembles and reviews incoming materials for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to established policy and procedures;
- Prepares logs and indices;
- Assists in maintaining calendars of due dates;
- May record dispositions and other information during proceedings;
- May assign file numbers.
FILING:
- Assists in maintaining a complex filing and record-keeping system for a variety of forms and documents and court reports.
TYPING:
- Types a variety of administrative, prosecutorial or other legal documents and correspondence;
- Operates office equipment;
- Acts as secretarial support for professional staff;
- May enter and retrieve data on computers, tablets and other electronic equipment.
INTERPERSONAL:
- Acts as receptionist, providing general information, assistance and referrals in responses to citizen questions regarding case status or process;
- Follows through on directed contacts with police, attorneys, witnesses, victims, etc.
RECORD KEEPING:
- Assists in maintaining inventory control;
- Assists in preparation and maintenance of various financial accounts and reports;
- Compiles office billings;
- Prepares attendance report;
- May receive and record cash payments;
Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Knowledge of office systems and procedures, including proper telephone usage and filing;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of general clerical work experience.
