PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for directing case management services in a region, training school or the central office.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives administrative direction from the Developmental Services Assistant Regional Director for Resources or other administrative official of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Region or Training School: Directs staff and programs assigned to case management services.
Central Office: Directs statewide case management services for the agency.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Directs staff and operations of case management services;
- Coordinates, plans and manages division activities;
- Formulates program goals and objectives;
- Develops or assists in development of related policy;
- Interprets and administers pertinent laws;
- Evaluates staff;
- Prepares or assists in preparation of division budget;
- Maintains contact with individuals within and outside of division who might impact on program activities;
- Directs processing of all referrals for services;
- Directs delivery of case management services to individual and coordinates services with those of other public and private community agencies;
- Directs development and maintenance of case records;
- Directs processing of admissions;
- Arranges for processing of clinical and diagnostic evaluations;
- Participates in administration of federal reimbursement programs;
- Recruits case management staff;
- Develops and implements in-service staff development programs;
- Trains and evaluates professional and clerical personnel;
- Directs preparation of appropriate grant requests;
- Supervises cataloging of community resources and assessment of community needs;
- Leads the recruitment and hiring of staff, including outreach, interview and selection;
- May supervise recruitment, licensing, development and implementation of community training homes and respite care programs;
- May serve as field instructor for graduate and undergraduate social work students;
- May coordinate and direct development and implementation of research activities;
- May function as Data Collection Systems coordinator in region or facility;
- May chair region or facility interdisciplinary admissions and case review team;
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Considerable knowledge of
- relevant agency policies and procedures;
- relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations;
- case management practices for individuals with an intellectual disability;
- social problems resulting from intellectual and other developmental disabilities and methods of dealing with such problems;
- organization of services for individuals with an intellectual disability and methods of their implementation;
- relationships between facilities for individuals with an intellectual disability, community agencies, courts and health facilities;
- interdisciplinary approach to program planning;
- public and private resources for individuals with an intellectual disability;
- Knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and practices;
- Considerable
- interpersonal skills;
- oral and written communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience supervising the provision of case management or casework services for individuals with an intellectual disability.
NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Developmental Services Supervisor of Case Management.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class must be eligible for certification as a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional as required by federal regulations.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
