PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is established as a structured internship program designed to prepare high school students for careers in administration, managerial, technical or other occupations through practical work experience in their chosen discipline.
GUIDELINES FOR JOB CLASS USE
- Incumbents are a junior or senior high school student, who is at least 16 years of age, and is enrolled in a formal internship program of a recognized and/or accredited high school.
- Required program documentation is to be retained in the agency personnel file.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the close supervision of an administrative official who reviews the progress of the program and the direct supervision of an employee designated by the administrator who reviews and rates work performance.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Receives practical training in application theories and concepts of chosen discipline;
- Assists professional, technical or clerical staff in performance of their duties or a special project;
- Completes assignments exercising teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
- Prepares reports using a variety of software applications;
- Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Junior or senior high school students enrolled in a formal internship program with high school study experience related to the designated agency and/or a functional area of the internship assignment.
APPOINTMENT
- Positions may be part time or full time.
- Incumbents can work a maximum of 520 hours, however, the assignment cannot exceed six (6) months.
- Incumbents in this class must retain active status as a student in the recognized and/or accredited school.
- Permanent status cannot be attained while working in this classification.
COMPENSATION GUIDELINES
- Compensation will be $15.69 per hour for an initial intern program.
- Compensation for a second intern program within the same agency may be granted additional compensation of $.50 per hour.
