PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Public Health this class is accountable for performing the most complex tasks in coordinating statewide Emergency Medical Services education and training programs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the limited supervision of a Public Health Section Chief.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May supervise/lead technical or clerical staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Coordinates emergency medical services training between credentialed field personnel and instructors;
- Serves as liaison between state Emergency Medical Services (EMS) office and educational organizations;
- Provides technical assistance to communities, public service agencies, state and local governments and instructors;
- Develops curricula and co-directs their implementation through community colleges;
- Develops and implements training programs such as emergency training for school nurses;
- Ensures quality of training and training outcomes through review and analysis of a variety of evidence-based data;
- Evaluates training programs and instructors’ performance;
- Produces a two-day statewide EMS educational conference annually;
- Speaks before groups regarding emergency training;
- Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Seven (7) years of experience in emergency medical services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
- Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in emergency medical services performing as an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic.
- One (1) year of the General Experience must have been as a full time instructor in an organized training program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents In this class must possess and retain an Emergency Medical Technician certification or Connecticut Paramedic licensure issued by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health.
- Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current Motor Vehicle Operator license.
