PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for performing the most complex tasks in the preparation of tracings, drawings, maps, plans, specifications and details from sketches and notes for projects.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the limited supervision of a Professional Engineer, Architect or other employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May lead lower level employees as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Prepares and reviews the most complex drawings, including the calculation and checking of computations for highway projects;
- Prepares the most complex maps, profiles, cross sections and cost estimates for projects;
- Reviews sets of drawings and plans prepared by assigned drafters for completeness and accuracy;
- Utilizes computer aided design equipment (CADD);
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Considerable knowledge of
- and skill in the use of computer aided design equipment;
- the principles, practices and methods of civil engineering drafting as applied to highway plans;
- Knowledge of
- highway construction methods, materials and specifications;
- algebra, geometry, and trigonometry;
- Considerable skill in the preparation of very difficult drawings, details, maps and plans;
- Interpersonal skills;
- Ability to utilize computer software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years of experience in civil engineering drafting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in highway drafting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College or technical school training in architectural drafting or design, civil engineering drafting or civil engineering may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
