PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection this class is accountable for performing support functions for professional level engineering staff including review and evaluation of technical data, analyses of field conditions, engineering calculations and report preparation; may provide technical assistance/ information to public or private agencies.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of an Environmental Engineer or other employee of higher grade; receives closer supervision when performing more advanced tasks.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May lead lower level Engineering Aides, clerical and field support employees.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Makes comparative analyses of project plans with field conditions to determine accuracy;
  • Inspects sites, collects and may lead collection of data for the development and support of engineering recommendations and analyses;
  • Determines what additional data may be necessary for a complete report;
  • Reviews and evaluates maps (e.g., topographic, property and geological) and other pertinent information, reports or records for engineering activities or inquiries;
  • Prepares reports, analyses and recommendations;
  • Performs complex calculations;
  • May assist in land surveying;
  • May perform title searches;
  • May reduce and plot field notes and prepare drawings;
  • May be required to prepare correspondence or provide information at meetings or hearings;
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    • prepare, read and interpret maps, diagrams, profiles, graphs, charts and cross sections;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience in field or office engineering work involving survey work, field data collection and calculations and/or mechanical drawing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

Graduation from high school or possession of General Educational Development (GED) certification with courses in algebra, geometry and trigonometry or mechanical drawing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some risk of injury or physical harm from survey/engineering environments and a moderate degree of discomfort from exposure to year-round weather conditions.

COMPENSATION GUIDELINES

  • The classification of Environmental Protection Engineering Aide 2 is assigned to Salary Group LS 13a.
  • Employees shall proceed through that salary group and then shall proceed to the maximum salary of Salary Group LS 14.
  • The Job Code is identified as Salary Plan IE in CORE-CT.
