PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Aging and Disability Services, Board of Education and Services for the Blind this class is accountable for supervising clients in the operation of a small business or vending facility and for monitoring vending machine locations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Vending Facility Supervisor or other employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May lead/supervise lower level employees as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Plans, designs, develops and promotes business opportunities for legally blind individuals through such areas as retail, food service and vending machine locations within municipal, state and federal buildings;
- Develops training programs and provides training for operators in implementation of new or changing opportunities;
- Conducts on site visits to provide business management consultation to operators;
- Plans, designs and coordinates renovation, construction and placement of facilities;
- Writes job and equipment specifications, follows bid process and awards contracts;
- Prepares budget reports and facility plans;
- Provides and maintains necessary supplies and equipment;
- Assures adherence to state and federal regulations;
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Knowledge of
- small business operation including purchasing, bidding, contract preparation/review and bookkeeping;
- principles and practices of retail sales;
- relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations;
- restaurant management including food preparation, portion control, menu planning and recordkeeping;
- and ability to apply counseling and training techniques;

- oral and written communications skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Six (6) years of experience in retail sales and/or restaurant operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in the operation of all aspects of a small business.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training in business management or other relevant area may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class may be required to work an unscheduled work week as necessary.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
