In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection this class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor and assisting in the management of lifeguard operations as well as performing a full range of lifeguard services at swimming areas operated by the state agency.

• Acts as the working supervisor and assists in managing the operation of the guarded designated swim area at the State Park; 
• Performs basic lifeguarding duties; 
• Leads the day to day activities of a lifeguard squad; 
• Coordinates lifeguard shifts; 
• Leads training activities; 
• Participates in the proper caring for and maintenance of equipment; 
• Provides daily updates to the supervisor and park management on issues and activities; 
• Performs related duties as required.

• Applicants must demonstrate competence in basic life-saving techniques.
• Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to swim while carrying an adult to safety.

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding with the Waterfront Module. Applicants without the Waterfront Module will still be accepted contingent on passing the pre-requisites for that course.
• Experience as a lifeguard or experience in a supervisory role over others is required for this position.

• The approved salary range for this class is $15.69 to a maximum of $23.00 per hour.
• The hourly rate will be subject to the following criteria:
  • A returning lifeguard supervisor may receive $.50 an hour additional compensation for each season of service up to the maximum hourly rate.
  • A lifeguard supervisor with lifeguard experience with another employer may receive $.50 an hour additional compensation for each season of service up to the maximum hourly rate.
