PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection this class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor and assisting in the management of lifeguard operations as well as performing a full range of lifeguard services at swimming areas operated by the state agency.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Acts as the working supervisor and assists in managing the operation of the guarded designated swim area at the State Park;
- Performs basic lifeguarding duties;
- Leads the day to day activities of a lifeguard squad;
- Coordinates lifeguard shifts;
- Leads training activities;
- Participates in the proper caring for and maintenance of equipment;
- Provides daily updates to the supervisor and park management on issues and activities;
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of paid lifeguard experience or previous lifeguard supervisory experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 18 years old.

Must have a current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding with the Waterfront Module. Applicants without the Waterfront Module will still be accepted contingent on passing the pre-requisites for that course.

Experience as a lifeguard or experience in a supervisory role over others is required for this position.
APPOINTMENT
Permanent status cannot be attained while working in this classification.
COMPENSATION GUIDELINES
- The approved salary range for this class is $15.69 to a maximum of $23.00 per hour.
- The hourly rate will be subject to the following criteria:
- A returning lifeguard supervisor may receive $.50 an hour additional compensation for each season of service up to the maximum hourly rate.
- A lifeguard supervisor with lifeguard experience with another employer may receive $.50 an hour additional compensation for each season of service up to the maximum hourly rate.
