PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection this class is accountable for training lifeguards and assisting with the administration of the lifeguard program statewide.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Trains lifeguards and assists with administering of the agency’s lifeguard program;
- Conducts waterfront and recertification classes;
- Conducts in-service training activities and general program assistance;
- Travels within the state to different guarded beaches and training locations;
- May be required to perform a full range of lifeguard services at swimming areas operated by the State;
- May be required to perform basic lifeguard duties as necessary;
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Applicants must demonstrate competence in basic life-saving techniques.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to swim while carrying an adult to safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
One year (1) of experience as a supervisor over lifeguards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 20 years old.
- Must have a current certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguard instructor.
- Must have a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
APPOINTMENT
Permanent status cannot be attained while working in this classification.
COMPENSATION GUIDELINES
- The approved salary range for this class is $16.00 to a maximum of $25.00 per hour.
- The hourly rates will be subject to the following criteria:
- A returning Beach Director may receive $.50 an hour additional compensation for each season of service up to the maximum hourly rate.
- A Beach Director with beach director experience with another employer may receive $.50 an hour additional compensation for each season of service up to the maximum hourly rate.
