PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing a full range of basic technical inspection or regulatory work.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Initially works under the close supervision of an inspector or other employee of higher grade; works more independently with acquired experience.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Performs basic technical duties of field inspection;
  • Deals with the public, other agencies, jurisdictions, or private organizations in regulatory work such as agriculture, consumer protection, environmental, food services, legalized gambling, motor vehicle, public safety, and weights and measures;
  • Makes field inspections; 
  • Assists inspectors with cases for investigation;
  • Takes samples of the premises, products, vehicles, etc.;
  • Writes reports on findings;
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Skills
    • interpersonal skills;
    • oral and written communication skills; 
  • Ability to
    • conduct basic inspections and investigations;
    • interpret and apply law enforcement and regulatory requirements of the assigned agency;
    • utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any experience or training which would provide the knowledge, skill, and ability indicated above.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A complete physical examination may be required prior to employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may occasionally be exposed to moderately disagreeable job conditions.

COMPENSATION GUIDELINES

In accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreement's compensation guidelines.
