PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
At the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of an employee of the same or higher grade.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
IN THE FIELD
- Collects samples of plants, insects or soils;
- Applies treatments;
- Plants, transplants, cuts or trims trees;
- Maintains grounds, assists in the maintenance of farm plots;
- Performs landscaping duties;
- May tend plots;
- May count insects or plants;
- Performs related duties as required.
IN THE LABORATORY
- Receives training in basic laboratory procedures and techniques;
- Prepares simple solutions, strains culture media and/or reagents according to written instructions;
- Prepares specimens/samples for examination;
- Maintains records of work performed;
- Sterilizes and cleans laboratory equipment;
- May perform routine tests and examinations under supervision;
- May tabulate data;
- Performs related duties as required.
GENERAL
- Loads and unloads supplies;
- Drives a motor vehicle or other power equipment;
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Ability to follow instructions;
- Laboratory and/or field experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in these classes may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:
- Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.
- College training in a specific field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.
APPOINTMENT
Permanent status cannot be attained while working in this classification.
COMPENSATION GUIDELINES
The approved salary range for this class is $15.69 to a maximum of $19.00 per hour.
