PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Transportation this class is accountable for supervising Material Storage Supervisors engaged in the handling and storage of materials, supplies and repair parts.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction from the Transportation Purchasing and Stores Assistant Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises Material Storage Supervisors and other staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff;
- Provides staff training and assistance;
- Conducts performance evaluations;
- Determines priorities and plans office work;
- Establishes and maintains office procedures;
- Develops or makes recommendations on the development of policies and standards;
- Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding office policies and procedures;
- Prepares reports and correspondence;
- In the office is responsible for maintaining a perpetual inventory record of all Department of Transportation stores in central and field storehouses;
- Adjusts values of losses caused by deterioration or obsolescence;
- Prepares detailed reports concerning Department of Transportation stores;
- Directs the preparation of the annual inventory report;
- Draws up forms and instructions and puts in operation new or changed methods of stores accounting;
- In the field, directs the activities of four (4) or more stores locations;
- Conducts field inspection of stores;
- Assists in the setting up of standards and specifications for stock items and advises on need for revision;
- Reviews and approves requisitions and purchases made by Material Storage Supervisors for stock purchases;
- Responsible for the distribution of stock, the transfer of items and the locating and methods of storing materials in several stores locations;
- Security of store material;
- Investigates discrepancies in records or any unusual conditions affecting stock;
- Performs related duties as required.

- Considerable knowledge of
- the principles and practices of handling and storing materials, supplies, and repair parts;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Six (6) years of experience in materials storage handling in charge of a large complex stores operation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity.
NOTE: For state employees lead experience is interpreted at the level of Transportation Maintainer 3. Supervisory experience is interpreted at the level of Material Storage Supervisor 1.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training in business administration may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling six (6) months experience to a maximum of four (4) years.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
