PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of State Police, class is accountable for administrating the operations of an office.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives executive direction from the
Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public
Protection.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Administers staff with managerial responsibilities over major operating sections within the office.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Administers staff and operations of a major State Police office;
- Coordinates, plans and manages office activities;
- Formulates office goals and objectives and makes recommendations to Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner;
- Develops or assists in development of related policy;
- Interprets and administers pertinent laws;
- Evaluates staff;
- Prepares office budget;
- Maintains contacts with individuals both within and outside of office who might impact program activities;
- Directs and implements agency policies, procedures and procedural revisions;
- Determines appropriate staffing level;
- Designs and implements performance review standards;
- Prepares comprehensive activity reports and budget projections;
- Leads the recruitment and hiring of staff, including outreach, interview and selection;
- Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of experience at the level of a State Police Lieutenant or above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must have sufficient strength, stamina, agility and endurance to perform all the duties of the class.
APPOINTMENT
Appointed by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection pursuant to Section 29-4 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
