PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Social Services, Medical Administration Division this class is accountable for providing assessment of biopsychosocial needs of clients and reviews compliance with state and/or federal statues, regulations, and guidelines.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the limited supervision of an employee of higher grade.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Acts as a member of a team evaluating medical, social and behavioral records in nursing homes and assessing compliance with OBRA preadmission requirements;
- Evaluates medical, social and behavioral health aspects of cases;
- Reviews data to ensure appropriate use of Medicaid program;
- Participates in utilization review and/or quality assurance programs;
- Conducts medical social work and behavioral health case reviews for quality, care management, cost containment, peer review and rehabilitation services;
- Summarizes and analyses data;
- Prepares statistical reports;
- Serves as a resource to agency staff, contractual and private providers in area of medical social work and behavioral health services;
- May monitor contractors and health care providers;
- Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Considerable knowledge of
- skills, practices and procedures of professional social work with emphasis on medical/social casework;
- various economic, emotional, medical, psychological and social factors influencing attitudes and behavior of individuals and families;
- social factors related to disease and methods of eliminating or minimizing adverse social, emotional and/or psychological factors;
- community organizations and resources including social, health and education services;
- Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant state and federal laws, statues and regulations;
- Considerable
- interpersonal skills;
- oral and written communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Eight (8) years of professional experience in social work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in a hospital or medical care program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
- College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
- A Master's degree in social work may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
