PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
This class is accountable for assisting museum curatorial staff in the implementation of ongoing museum programs and activities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general supervision from a museum curator, agency administrator or other employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May lead employees of lower grade.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Assists in the administration of museum programs and activities such as security, preservation, conservation, and maintenance;
- Catalogs and maintains specimens, artifacts, reproductions, implements, art objects and other materials contained in museum collections;
- Maintains records on number of visitors, fees collected, ticket inventory and items sold;
- Makes deposits;
- Prepares monthly reports;
- Prioritizes and ensures completion of maintenance work on building(s) and grounds;
- Obtains service bids for repairs;
- Greets and guides visitors through museum;
- Provides information on various collections;
- Constructs exhibits and displays of materials;
- Composes correspondence;
- Types;
- May perform research on collection articles;
- Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years of experience in museum work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
