PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising Research Analysts engaged in developing, implementing and conducting research projects.
GUIDELINES FOR JOB CLASS USE
Incumbents in this class shall provide direct supervision to a minimum of three (3) professional staff to warrant a full-time supervisor.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction from an administrative official or other employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises Research Analysts and other staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of staff;
- Supervises development and implementation of research projects, analysis and evaluation of data and preparation of narrative and statistical reports;
- Provides staff training and assistance;
- Conducts performance evaluations;
- Determines priorities and plans research work;
- Establishes and maintains research procedures;
- Develops or makes recommendations on development of research policies and standards;
- Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures;
- Prepares special reports and correspondence;
- Speaks before groups of legislators, concerned citizens and other individuals regarding research;
- Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Eight (8) years of professional experience in research, data analysis or economics.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of the General Experience must have been conducting research at the level of Associate Research Analyst.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
- College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
- A Master's degree in economics, statistics or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
