PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Consumer Protection this class is accountable for supervising employees engaged in planning, organizing and developing programs to carry out the activities of one of the major sections of the Gaming Division.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives general direction from an administrative official of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervises staff assigned to regulate a racing facility, casino gaming facility, lottery operation or charitable gaming operation.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff; 
  • Provides staff training and assistance; 
  • Conducts performance evaluations; 
  • Determines priorities and plans work; 
  • Establishes and maintains procedures; 
  • Develops or makes recommendations on the development of policies and standards; 
  • Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; 
  • Prepares reports and correspondence; 
  • Reviews and evaluates reports involving rules violations, regulations, procedures, policies and statutes and makes recommendations; 
  • May provide testimony at contested case hearings as requested; 
  • May investigate more serious public complaints and effects resolutions when possible; 
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Eight (8) years of experience in business administration or investigatory work for a business organization or regulatory or governmental agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years of the General Experience must have been at the level of a Consumer Protection Gaming Regulation Officer or a Consumer Protection Charitable Games Liaison Officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some risk of injury from assaultive or abusive patrons.
