PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor for Financial Clerks in the performance of accounting, processing payments, bookkeeping, or record keeping functions.
GUIDELINES FOR JOB CLASS USE
This class is reserved for incumbents who have full-time lead responsibility over employees while assisting in the performance of work activities. There should be a sufficient number of staff to warrant a full-time working supervisor. This class is not intended for one-on-one supervision.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction from an employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Leads Financial Clerks and other staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Coordinates office workflow;
- Determines priorities, assigns and reviews work;
- Establishes and maintains office procedures;
- Provides staff training and assistance;
- Conducts or assists in conducting performance evaluations;
- Maintains or oversees maintenance of office records and logs;
- Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures;
- Prepares financial statements and reports;
- Assists in budget preparation;
- Assembles and compiles financial data;
- Performs a range of other financial record keeping functions such as keeping journals and ledgers, balancing and reconciling accounts, receiving and disbursing funds and recording monetary transactions;
- Performs related duties as required.

- Knowledge of
- bookkeeping, payroll procedures and financial record keeping;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years of clerical experience in accounting, financial record keeping or bookkeeping.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
- College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience.
- One (1) year as a Financial Clerk or Cash Accounting Clerk may be substituted for the General Experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Persons having responsibility for supervising or observing the behavior of inmates or custodial clients will be required to possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification by the time of permanent appointment.
