PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In an assigned Workers' Compensation Commission district office this class is accountable for supervising work of Hearing Reporters on a statewide basis as well as performing the duties of a Hearing Reporter 2 (Workers' Compensation Commission).
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction from an employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises Hearing Reporters and other assigned staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Coordinates workflow of Hearing Reporters including making emergency temporary reassignments;
- Redistributes pending transcripts among Hearing Reporters to ensure timely completion;
- Monitors status of transcript completion on an agency-wide basis;
- Travels to various district offices as needed for emergency or unusual situations;
- Records verbatim testimony during formal hearings;
- Maintains accurate records of exhibits;
- Prepares and types transcripts;
- Schedules hearings or official actions and types and issues notices;
- Assembles and maintains records and files;
- Acts as a liaison with the public, other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding agency policies and procedures;
- Maintains or oversees maintenance of office records and logs;
- Prepares correspondence and memoranda;
- Prepares reports;
- Types a variety of materials;
- Takes and transcribes dictation as necessary;
- Performs special projects as requested by Chairman;
- May purchase supplies and equipment, maintain inventory and petty cash or assist in budget preparation;
- Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years of stenographic experience which must have included making verbatim records and transcripts of complex and difficult formal hearings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been at a lead level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
Graduation from a one (1) year court reporting or court stenography program at a business institute may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class may be required to possess appropriate current licenses or permits.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
