PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Safety Fleet Administration Unit this class is accountable for directing the operations of the unit.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives administrative direction from an administrative official of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Directs staff of unit.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Directs staff and operations of the Public Safety Fleet Administration Unit;
- Coordinates, plans and manages unit activities;
- Formulates program goals and objectives;
- Develops or assists in development of related policy;
- Interprets and administers pertinent laws;
- Evaluates staff;
- Prepares or assists in preparation of unit budget;
- Maintains contacts with individuals within and outside of unit who might impact on program activities;
- Manages acquisition, use, inspection, maintenance and disposition of fleet vehicles;
- Provides specifications for high tech electronics for vehicles;
- Conducts periodic review of maintenance, repair and replacement practices as well as conducts a periodic review of vehicle use;
- Coordinates purchases of vehicles through the Department of Administrative Services;
- Maintains records of cost and performance data;
- Leads the recruitment and hiring of staff, including outreach, interview and selection;
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Considerable knowledge of
- required uses of fleet vehicles;
- principles utilized in use and management of a large motor vehicle fleet;
- method of vehicle maintenance;
- Knowledge of
- and ability to apply management principles and practices;
- relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations;
- repair and modification of electronic, electromechanical equipment and devices;
- Considerable
- interpersonal skills;
- oral and written communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Eight (8) years of professional and/or technical experience in a fleet management program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in a supervisory capacity in an automotive or fleet operation environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
- College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelors degree.
- A Master's degree in business or a related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
