PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency information systems environment this class is accountable for receiving on the job training in performing basic technical work involving help desk functions, user support and assisting in application support.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Initially works under the close supervision of an information systems employee of a higher grade; may work more independently with acquired experience.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience in computer operations support or another computer related support area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training in management information systems, computer science, electrical engineering or information technology related area may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.

PROMOTION

Incumbents in this class will be eligible for promotion to the target class of Information Technology Technician without further competitive examination after successful completion of the one (1) year training program.

APPOINTMENT

This class is established to permit agencies to recruit and train employees for information technology work under the provisions of section 5-234 of the C.G.S. An employee may be appointed to this class for a period not to exceed two (2) years. No exceptions or extensions beyond two (2) years will be granted.
