PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the State Library, Division of Library Development this class is accountable for directing and coordinating the administration of all operations of and services rendered by the division.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives administrative direction from the State Librarian.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Directs staff of division.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Directs staff and coordinates operations of and services rendered by the Division of Library Development;
- Conducts work flow studies and operational analyses;
- Makes policy recommendations at division level;
- Coordinates implementation of division reorganizations;
- Implements program revisions;
- Directs special projects such as space relocation, weeding and inventory;
- Develops and maintains library collections;
- Makes budget recommendations;
- Supervises statewide programs of division structures;
- Conducts management training;
- Manages and evaluates division staff;
- Leads the recruitment and hiring of staff, including outreach, interview and selection;
- Performs related duties as required.

- library administration, principles and techniques of modern library science, library services, library finance and library automation;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
A Master’s degree in library science or information science from a library school accredited by the American Library Association and six (6) years of post graduate degree experience in professional library work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in a supervisory capacity over library operations.
NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a State Library Unit Head.
