PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
As State Librarian directs development of a public library service program; advises and provides technical assistance to local communities as to proper methods of establishing, administering and managing free public and other libraries; plans and coordinates public, college and special library services; directs administration of federal funds for construction and operation of public libraries; responsible for distribution of state grants to public libraries; administers operation of Library Service Centers; as State Librarian directs operation of State Library; purchases books upon authorization or direction by State Library Board; responsible for maintenance of state archives, state museum, state war records, lands and probate records; upon request provides certified copies of any land, probate or other record, document or file maintained by State Library; directs a record management and records retirement program; administrative responsibility for State Library and Supreme Court building and grounds.
APPOINTMENT
Appointed by the State Library Board under the provisions of Section 11-1(d) of the Connecticut General Statutes.
