PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Revenue Services this class is accountable for acting as a working supervisor for Revenue Processors and clerical employees or resolving the most complex tax document and account processing within a variety of financial data systems activities a majority of the time.
GUIDELINES FOR JOB CLASS USE
This is the working lead or advanced working level classification and distinguished from lower level classes by performing either full time lead responsibility over a section of work, Revenue Processors and clerical employees while performing a full range of activities or solving the most difficult and complex issues involving tax and financial data systems a majority of the time.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction from an employee of higher grade such as Tax Operations Unit Supervisor, Tax Operations Assistant Supervisor, Accountant or Tax Correction Examiner.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May lead Revenue Processors, clerical employees and other staff as assigned within a section or unit.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- As a working supervisor plans unit workflow and determines priorities;
- Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work;
- Establishes and maintains unit procedures;
- Provides staff training and assistance;
- Conducts or assists in conducting performance evaluations;
- Acts as liaison with operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures;
- Analyzes and resolves complex computer input problems involving such things as combined or amended returns, mergers, penalty waivers, tax warrants, multi-step adjustments and those involving processing problems within financial data systems;
- Responds to and handles most difficult complex correspondence and telephone inquiries requiring special attention;
- Determines how to process facsimiles, bad checks, difficult identification of payments or unusual situations for proper entry;
- Researches and reconstructs complex accounts involving compound errors, multiple tax periods and different tax types;
- Verifies credits to be applied to estimates on amended returns;
- Handles problems requiring immediate attention due to data processing schedules or impact on another unit;
- Reviews, edits and updates for critical errors and determines how to correct system;
- Maintains records of section productivity including preparing and balancing financial and bond reports;
- May perform on-line adjustments to accounts which may affect agency financial security;
- May verify accuracy of completed audits for computer input and proper filling;
- May verify registration of corporate taxpayers requesting tax clearance;
- May make recommendations on policies or standards;
- May prepare reports and correspondence;
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Considerable knowledge of
- methods of processing taxpayer data into financial data systems;
- research methods and sources of information used in verifying taxpayer accounts;

- methods of computation of tax liabilities;
- tax statutes affecting processing, registration and billing of taxpayer accounts;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience involving the billing of accounts or processing of tax documents such as applications, returns or billings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have involved the preparation, verification and analysis of input and retrieval of data from a complex financial computer system at the level of a Revenue Processor.
