PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Revenue Services, Operations Division this class is accountable for supervising technical and clerical staff engaged in the data perfection of taxpayer source documents for completeness and accuracy to accommodate efficient computer entry and deposit.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives general direction from a Tax Operations Unit Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervises Revenue Processors, Associate Revenue Processors and clerical staff within a unit.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Supervises the registration of applications, over the counter sales of stamps and meter purchases, and the processing of tax payments, accompanying bills and returns; 
  • Supervises the batching and balancing of returns, adjustments and payments for data input and deposit; 
  • Supervises the processing of all changes to taxpayer information on the taxpayer source documents; 
  • Maintains journals and subsidiary ledgers on batch input with data input; 
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable knowledge of
    • methods of preparing data for input into financial data systems; 
    • the operations of other tax units; 
  • Knowledge of
    • research methods and procedures to obtain taxpayer account information; 
    • relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; 
  • Considerable
    • interpersonal skills; 
    • oral and written communication skills; 
  • Supervisory ability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Seven (7) years of experience involving the billing of accounts or processing of tax documents such as applications, returns or billings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of the General Experience must have involved the preparation, verification, and analysis of input and retrieval of data from a complex computer system at the level of a Revenue Processor (Revenue Services).
