PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is responsible for independently performing a full range of tasks associated with typing complex reports, correspondence and other documents requiring extensive use of medical terminology from machine transcription or rough copy.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May have lead responsibilities over other staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Transcribes medical histories, x-ray notes, results of examinations, progress and service notes, diagnoses and letters;
- Composes correspondence;
- Types copies and abstracts of medical and laboratory records using computers, tablets and other electronic equipment;
- Records inoculations and vaccinations;
- Locates patient records for court proceedings;
- Provides information and referral services for official or personal inquiries;
- Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
One (1) year as a Clerk Typist or its equivalent with some responsibility for medical typing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Persons having responsibility for supervising or observing the behavior of inmates or custodial clients will be required to possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification by the time of permanent appointment.
