In a state agency facility or institution this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in skilled agriculture work.
This class is used in one or more of the following areas:
- General farm labor (crops, produce, orchards, etc.)
- Farm animal science and/or maintenance (dairy, horses, poultry, sheep, pigs, etc.)
- Plant science
- Dairy manufacturing
Works under the general supervision of an Agricultural Worker 2 or other employee of higher grade.
May lead Agricultural Worker Trainees, students and other lower level employees as assigned.
One (1) year of experience in one of the following areas, related to the specific needs of the position:
- General farm labor (crops, produce, orchards, etc.)
- Farm animal science and or maintenance (dairy, horses, poultry, sheep, pigs, etc.)
- Plant science
- Dairy manufacturing
College training in agriculture or a related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of one (1) year.
In accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreement's compensation guidelines.

- Steam cleaning equipment
- Soil sampling apparatus
- Dairy manufacturing equipment (fillers, bag box machine, 1/2 gallon and 1/2 pint machine)
- Milking machines and associated equipment, scales and balances
- Back trimmers
- Hoof trimmers
- Wool shears
- Ear tagging guns
- Egg cleaners and sprayers
- Automated feeders
