PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Aging and Disability Services, Board of Education and Services for the Blind this class is accountable for supervising the program and staff in the vocational rehabilitation program for the blind.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction an employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises assigned staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of staff;
- Provides staff training and assistance;
- Conducts performance evaluations;
- Determines priorities and plans program;
- Establishes and maintains program procedures;
- Develops or makes recommendations on development of policies and standards;
- Acts liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures;
- Prepares reports and correspondence;
- Reviews invoices submitted by vendors for services rendered for compliance with agency policies and standards;
- Supervises and maintains case recording system;
- Explains and interprets vocational rehabilitation services to individuals who are blind and visually impaired and the public;
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Considerable knowledge of
- principles and techniques of vocational rehabilitation counseling, interviewing and psychological and occupational testing;
- community resources available to rehabilitate individuals who are blind and visually impaired;
- occupations, job requirements and safety factors;
- medical and psychological aspects of disabilities;
- Knowledge of
- laws relating to operation of vocational rehabilitation program;
- in-service training;
- Considerable
- interpersonal skills;
- oral and written communication skills;
- Supervisory ability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
A Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or a closely related field and four (4) years of professional experience in rehabilitation counseling, job placement of individuals with disabilities or vocational adjustment counseling.
