PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Departments of Aging and Disability Services and Correction this class is accountable for performing the most complex tasks in coordinating volunteer service programs.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the limited supervision of an employee of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervises clerical staff, volunteer interns, workfare participants or foster grandparents as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Performs the most complex tasks in coordinating volunteer service programs; 
  • Develops, implements and evaluates goals and objectives; 
  • Assists in development of policy; directs and evaluates volunteer staff; 
  • Assists in preparation of program budget; 
  • Evaluates and monitors need for volunteer services; 
  • Recruits, trains, assigns and supervises volunteers; 
  • Prepares and conducts public education programs; 
  • Prepares forms and orientation packets used with volunteers; 
  • Serves as a liaison to support groups and volunteer organizations including but not limited to civic groups, social organizations, corporate sector, etc.; 
  • Orients volunteers to philosophy and policies of department and programs; 
  • Speaks before groups regarding volunteer services and agency goals and objectives; 
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Seven (7) years of experience in an organized volunteer services program having responsibility for coordination of program activities and resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • Professional level experience in public relations or public information in a governmental agency, hospital or non-profit agency may be substituted for the General Experience on a year for year basis.
  • College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four years for a Bachelor's degree.
  • A Master's degree in health, psychology, public relations, social science or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
