PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state facility or institution this class is accountable for supervising the paraprofessional operations of a radiology department while performing technical radiographic procedures as needed.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general direction from a medical professional.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Leads Staff Radiological Technologists of lower grade and other employees as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Assumes lead responsibility for paraprofessional aspects of a radiology department and production of high quality radiographic work in compliance with state and federal regulations and standards;
- Initiates employee evaluations, recommends promotions or disciplinary action where appropriate;
- Interprets departmental and agency rules and regulations;
- Participates in teaching programs and in-service classes;
- Performs technical radiographic functions as needed;
- Ensures practice of sterile techniques and compliance with infection control policies;
- Performs limited preventive maintenance and quality assurance measurement of equipment;
- Responsible for procurement and storage of supplies;
- Acts as a liaison between radiology department and other departments or agencies;
- Maintains attendance reports;
- May administer first aid;
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Considerable knowledge of
- relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations;
- radiographic procedures and equipment;
- Knowledge of auxiliary patient monitoring equipment
- Interpersonal skills;
- Ability to lead staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience as a Radiological Technologist.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists and hold current Connecticut state licensure.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and position patients and may be exposed to radiation, moderately disagreeable conditions and occasionally to infectious and/or communicable diseases.
