The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Clinical Supervising Psychologist 2 (PCN 138741) to join our team. This position will oversee our Behavioral Intervention Service (BIS) in the General Psychiatry Division of Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH). WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
- Leads Behavioral Rounds on the unit to address specific patient conduct issues with emphasis upon immediate and timely interventions involving all treatment team members and direct care staff.
- Acts as a primary liaison between the Behavioral Intervention Service and unit-based treatment teams to ensure timely consultation and interventions.
- Provides supervision of the psychologists and students in the General Psychiatry Division, including Supervisor 1 Psychologist positions and unit Psychologist positions.
- Helps develop performance standards and completes staff performance appraisals.
- Monitors additional psychological services as they are implemented throughout the division (psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, neuropsychological assessment, problem sexual behavior and other evaluations).
- With the Director of Psychology, helps determines psychology’s priorities and plans, and coordinates and supervises program activities
- Formulates and oversees quality assurance efforts.
- Helps develop or assist with the creation of policies, procedures, and standards.

The Connecticut Valley Hospital boasts a rich history first opening its doors over 150 years ago in 1868. As the State’s public hospital we provide treatment of mental illness and currently comprised of 18 inpatient units over two campuses (Middletown and Hartford). The BIS performs as the primary behavioral management resource to the Connecticut Valley Hospital and Whiting Forensic Hospital treatment teams, and develops behavioral plans hospital-wide. These include both full behavioral treatment interventions and more acute interventions, and direct care staff education in such interventions. Additionally, the Behavioral Intervention Service provides behavioral consultations to DMHAS facilities as requested.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In state facilities this class is accountable for supervising a comprehensive psychology or multidisciplinary clinical program with its own services and staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Supervises a comprehensive psychology or multidisciplinary clinical program;
- Provides clinical consultation on complex cases;
- Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff;
- Provides staff training and assistance;
- Conducts performance evaluations;
- Determines priorities and plans program work;
- Establishes and maintains program procedures;
- Develops or make recommendations on development of policies and standards;
- Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding program policies and procedures;
- Prepares reports and correspondence;
- Addresses professional and lay groups;
- May design, implement and/or direct psychological research programs;
- May direct an intern training program including the selection of candidates and organization of an educational plan;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
A Doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology and three (3) years of post-doctoral experience as a licensed clinical psychologist.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in the creation and implementation of Behavioral Plans with the seriously mentally ill.
- Experience in the supervision of psychologists.
- Experience in Psychological Assessment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license to practice psychology in Connecticut. Any person employed by the State of Connecticut prior to July 1, 1985 with a title in the psychology series of the classified service shall be exempt from the above licensure requirements pursuant to Public Act 613, Section 119 (c). For certain positions, the appointing authority may require State licensure.
- Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f).
- Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
