The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) has a Connecticut Careers Trainee position, with a target class of Trainer, available in the Division of Training & Staff Development. This Division is responsible for serving the training needs of the entire Agency whether by teaching the actual coursework or procuring consultant trainers for technical or highly advanced specialty courses. Responsibilities include scheduling classes and maintaining personnel training records; providing career counseling and new employee orientations, administering the tuition reimbursement program; managing federal project contracts for eligible training programs and conferences; ensuring mandated training requirements are fulfilled; administering the UConn T2 program as well as Amtrak and Metro-North rail safety training; coordinating the Department’s Lean initiatives; coordinating maintenance and safety related classes; and developing curriculum for and teaching various in-house training classes.

In a state agency this class is accountable for mastering the skills necessary to satisfactorily complete the training program for a professional position.
Example of duties include: planning, developing, coordinating and conducting in-house training classes such as New Employee Orientation, Time Management, Presentation Skills, Career Development, Introduction to Supervision, Supervisory Development, Workplace Communications, Customer Service, Succession Planning, Leadership, and Team Building; assisting with the Lean Program; assisting with the tuition reimbursement program; assisting with the field maintenance and safety training activities; assisting in the administration of annual federally funded training needs and conferences projects; and working with the Division’s employee scheduling and training records system.
Oral and written communication skills; ability to acquire knowledge and skills required for the target classification; ability to understand, evaluate and solve problems by exercising judgement and logic; ability to read, interpret and understand written material; ability to perform basic arithmetical computations; ability to interpret charts, graphs and tables; learning and reasoning ability; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with superiors, associates and general public; ability to utilize computer software.
Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
