This opportunity is 40 hours per week with a Monday through Friday schedule.
The CCT is an entry level position offering training in the area of railroad transportation. You will develop the tools necessary to become a professional in field. You will be assigned a variety of tasks related to rail construction, maintenance of railway and safety. This includes field inspection, data collection, coordination with the various freight and facility operators, construction inspection, force account oversight, invoicing management of maintenance of way activities, safety oversight and preparation of reports.
Role/Responsibilities:
The duties will include traveling to worksites for field inspection, data collection, coordination with the various freight and facility operators, construction inspection, force account project oversight, invoicing, management of maintenance of way activities, safety oversight and preparation of reports. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
Eligibility for promotion to the target classification of Transportation Rail Officer 1 is earned upon successful completion of the training program.
First Year of Training
Bachelor's degree FS 15 Step 1
Master's degree FS 15 Step 2
Second Year of Training General Rate FS 15 Step 5
The salary for an employee who completes any of the above Minimum Requirements after initial appointment to the Connecticut Careers Trainee job class will be adjusted commensurate with the schedule above and effective the pay period following the date the Master's degree has been conferred or the pay period following the date the appropriate number of credits as indicated above have been earned.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for mastering the skills necessary to satisfactorily complete the training program for a professional position.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
In a department or institution receives training in introductory governmental work for development of skills and knowledge in field of public administration in order to qualify for advancement into agency professional positions; performs a variety of increasingly difficult duties as skills are acquired during course of training period; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Oral and written communication skills; ability to acquire knowledge and skills required for the target classification; ability to understand, evaluate and solve problems by exercising judgement and logic; ability to read, interpret and understand written material; ability to perform basic arithmetical computations; ability to interpret charts, graphs and tables; learning and reasoning ability; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with superiors, associates and general public; ability to utilize computer software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Construction Management
- Experience in prioritizing work assignments and meeting sensitive deadlines
- Experience in Railroad construction or railroad related organizations
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365 including scheduling meetings, managing data, composing correspondence, report writing and tracking work
- Experience developing relationships with stakeholders
- Experience identifying problems, researching solutions, making a decision, and verifying the accuracy of the decision
