The DEEP State Parks & Public Outreach Division is responsible for managing the outdoor recreation opportunities at parks and forests across CT. The Division has proudly staffed lifeguards at many beaches across the state for over a century. The CT State Park Lifeguards are an elite squad of highly trained professionals that have kept millions of swimmers safe!
Working with us will enhance your teamwork, communication, and leadership skills-perfect for any professional resume or college application. DEEP is providing all training required to work as a lifeguard at the State Park beaches and training time is paid.
Being a state park lifeguard is unlike any job you'll ever have, with high stakes and real-world experience. All of our guards are trained and guided by qualified professionals, and you will be paid while taking all the training. Lifeguards work as a team and many form lasting friendships. POSITION DETAILS
Location: Burr Pond State Park
Schedule: Five day shifts per week with a schedule of 10am- 6pm. Most weekends and July 4 are mandatory.
Anticipated Duration: Memorial Day Weekend (May 28) through Labor Day (September 5).

This is a non-competitive recruitment, open to the public.
IMPORTANT SELECTIONS INFORMATION
Must be at least 16 years old and present proof of age.
Hired candidates will be required to provide copies of certifications such as CPR, first aid, lifeguard, EMR/EMT.
Must be able to pass training prerequisite skills and state issued certifications.
Must be fluent in English.
A pre-employment physical may be required of all applicants.
TO APPLY
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOU APPLY
Acts as primary visitor contact, interacting with the public to assist them in the safe and orderly enjoyment of the state park beach. Monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and assist swimmers; cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas; maintains order in swimming areas; rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid and/or cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required; participates in physical and rescue skills training; performs general tasks as assigned; and performs related duties as required.
Applicants must be able to successfully complete the training prerequisite skills to work as a state park lifeguard before they can take the state issued training. All applicants will have two attempts to successfully complete the following skills:
