The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is hiring for a Clinical Neuropsychologist to help support our agency. This Neuropsychologist position will provide Neuropsychological assessments to referred patients at Connecticut Valley Hospital as well as help the Behavioral Intervention Service (BIS) create and implement Behavioral Plans between testing cases.

In this role, discover the opportunity to:
- Provides Neuropsychological Assessment services to the patients of Connecticut Valley Hospital.
- Provides consultation to unit treatment teams regarding the results of these assessments.
- In conjunction with other Behavioral Intervention Service staff, in this role you will help develop and implement Behavioral Plans throughout the hospital, and monitor the success of these plans.
- Acts as a primary liaison between the Behavioral Intervention Service and unit-based treatment teams to ensure timely consultation and interventions.
- Provides supervision of the students in the General Psychiatry Division.

Additionally, the Behavioral Intervention Service provides behavioral consultations to DMHAS facilities as requested.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state facility, this class is accountable for providing neuropsychological assessment and treatment to clients of the facility or program, as well as consultation to professional staff regarding evaluation, management, and treatment of individuals with suspected or confirmed neurological or neurobehavioral conditions.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Plans, develops, implements and coordinates neuropsychological services program; determines
priorities and plans program work; conducts assessments, treatments, evaluations and consultations
on complex assessment cases or those which there may be a neurological, neuropsychological, or
neurobehavioral component requiring specialized neuropsychological evaluations; acts as a liaison
with clinical teams, psychiatrists, psychologists, primary care providers, and unit staff to convey
recommendations and provide education related to specific patient assessment or management
needs; may develop and provide individualized and/or group cognitive remediation services; may
provide training, education and clinical supervision to program/facility psychologists, interns, and
other staff members; prepares reports and correspondence; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of neuropsychological assessment, including choosing and administering
procedures and instruments, interpreting and reporting findings, and developing related
recommendations and treatment plans; considerable diagnostic knowledge of neurological and
neurobehavioral disorders; considerable knowledge of abnormal and clinical psychology and the
intersection between psychiatric and neurological factors; considerable knowledge of psychological
research design, data analysis and application of results; considerable interpersonal skills, and oral
and written communication skills; considerable ability to develop and direct training programs;
considerable teaching ability; supervisory ability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
A Doctorate degree in clinical psychology and three (3) years of post-doctoral experience as a
licensed clinical psychologist.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness
- Experience in the creation and implantation of Behavioral Plans.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
-
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license to practice psychology in
Connecticut. Any person employed by the State of Connecticut prior to July 1, 1985 with a title in
the psychology series of the classified services shall be exempt from the above licensure
requirements pursuant to Public Act 613, Section 119(c). For certain positions, the appointing
authority may require State licensure.
- Incumbents in this class must have completed an American Psychological Association (APA)
approved internship, including a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology; or have
obtained board certification (or proof of current eligibility for board certification) in
Neuropsychology (through the American Board of Professional Psychology/American Board of
Clinical Neuropsychology (ABPP-ABCN) or American Board of Professional Neuropsychology
(ABN)).
- Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health
care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f).
- Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the
use of the American Sign Language.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
