Connecticut’s
Office of Higher Education (OHE) has been awarded a research grant from the US
Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences to examine the
Roberta B. Willis Scholarship Program (RWSP), Connecticut’s primary
state-administered financial aid program. The project answers the
need for evidence at the State level regarding Connecticut's investment in
need-based and combined need-merit financial aid as means for increasing
college attainment among low-income students at Connecticut's public colleges
and universities.
The
analyst in this role will be based at OHE in Hartford and will be expected to
work closely with Office of Policy and Management, P20 WIN agencies, and
research team at the University Massachusetts Boston (UMB). The individual will
be responsible for coordinating access to RWSP data for preparing RWSP data for
analysis and answering any questions on data quality from the research team;
and will work to develop scripts and codebooks to crosswalk data elements from
other agencies to create a uniform data set for research. In addition, the
analyst may directly provide some of the descriptive and exploratory analysis
for the research project.
ABOUT
US:
In
the early 1980s, the Board of Governors for Higher Education became concerned
about the lack of racial and ethnic diversity among the student bodies and
professional staff of the state’s public colleges and universities. Following a
study of relevant demographics, the Board developed its Strategic Plan to Ensure
Racial and Ethnic Diversity in Connecticut Public Higher Education as a
statement of organizational policy. In March of 1983, the state
legislature incorporated the goals of the Strategic Plan within the state’s
general statutes {C.G.S. Section 10a-11}. The Plan’s goals included a
desire that students who enroll and graduate from each of the public
institutions of higher education are representative of the racial and ethnic
diversity of the total population of the state.
The State
of CT Office of Higher Education(OHE), seeks to advance the promise of
postsecondary education for all state residents, and to advocate on behalf of
students, taxpayers, and the postsecondary schools and colleges which fall
under its purview. The Office of Higher Education carries out its mission by
assuring that students have access to postsecondary institutions which meet the
highest standards of academic quality, by administering the state’s student
financial aid programs, and by serving as an information and consumer protection
resource.
AN AFFIRMATIVE ACTION/EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
The State of Connecticut is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and strongly encourages the applications of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities.
