POSITION DETAILS
This role covers basic imaging services at York Correctional Institution in East Lyme, CT with coverage over Corrigan Correctional Center in Montville, CT and Brooklyn Correctional Institution in Brooklyn, CT. This position is 35 hours per week, first shift Monday – Friday 8:00 am - 3:00 pm.
As the statewide Principal Radiological Technician, the position covers clinical oversight across the state. Travel may be required to assess facility equipment or to assist with training new technicians.

The York Correctional Institution is a high-security facility. It serves as the state's only institution for female offenders. It serves all superior courts in Connecticut and manages all pretrial and sentenced female offenders, whatever their security level.
The Corrigan Correctional Institution and the Radgowski Correctional Institution were consolidated in May 2001 as the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center. This facility confines both pretrial and sentenced offenders. It serves superior courts in Danielson, New London, Norwich and Windham.
The Brooklyn Correctional Institution endeavors to hold offenders accountable, while offering developmental opportunities through sound educational, vocational and cognitive programming that subsequently facilitates successful reintegration into the community. The Brooklyn Correctional Institution is a level 3 medium-security facility.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state facility or institution this class is accountable for supervising the paraprofessional operations of a radiology department while performing technical radiographic procedures as needed.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assumes lead responsibility for paraprofessional aspects of a radiology department and production of high quality radiographic work in compliance with state and federal regulations and standards; initiates employee evaluations, recommends promotions or disciplinary action where appropriate; interprets departmental and agency rules and regulations; participates in teaching programs and inservice classes; performs technical radiographic functions as needed; insures practice of sterile techniques and compliance with infection control policies; performs limited preventive maintenance and quality assurance measurement of equipment; responsible for procurement and storage of supplies; acts as a liaison between radiology department and other departments or agencies; maintains attendance reports; may administer first aid; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; considerable knowledge of radiographic procedures and equipment; interpersonal skills; ability to lead staff; familiarity with auxiliary patient monitoring equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience as a Radiological Technologist.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Computer Radiography (CR) technology;
- Experience with supervising employees;
- Experience with quality assurance and auditing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists and hold current Connecticut State licensure.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and position patients and may be exposed to radiation, moderately disagreeable conditions and occasionally to infectious and/or communicable diseases.
