ABOUT US
The DOB is the primary state regulator for state-chartered banks and credit unions, securities, and consumer credit.  Its mission is to protect users of financial services from unlawful or improper practices by ensuring regulated entities and individuals adhere to state banking, consumer credit and securities laws. DOB accomplishes this through regular, thorough, and cost-effective examinations of the entities it supervises.  DOB also engages the public and other stakeholders through a variety of media platforms, educational outreach initiatives, and press communications.

THE ROLE
The Banking Education Coordinator will be responsible for assisting student borrowers in knowing their rights concerning their student loans by providing education materials, presentations and other content.  In addition, this role will assist in crafting the Department’s communication plan as well as other materials. This will require assisting the office in educational initiatives designed to assist student borrowers, including: 
  • Writing and designing department publications
  • Managing social media accounts for the department
  • Directing public engagement, as well as other duties as needed

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • Permanent full-time position working 40 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday schedule

  • This is a hybrid role, offering the flexibility to work remotely at times

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Banking this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the coordination of the consumer financial and investor education programs.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Coordinates planning and implementation of consumer financial and investor educational programs; 
  • Acquires and monitors monetary funds from specialized sources; 
  • Conducts outreach to target audiences such as schools, senior service providers, state agencies, community groups, associations and other groups concerned with consumer financial and investor education; 
  • Prioritizes educational program activities; 
  • Identifies educational instructors; 
  • Coordinates and implements programs; 
  • Evaluates program content and delivery of workshops, seminars, presentations and continuing educational programs; 
  • Establishes and maintains contacts with local, state and federal financial regulatory agencies, related professional organizations, schools, civic organizations, businesses and the public; 
  • Prepares and makes recommendations on budgetary requirements; 
  • Prepares and distributes informational materials; 
  • Conducts marketing presentations; 
  • Prepares news releases and announcements for media; 
  • Oversees development and maintenance of educational material on agency web site; 
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Six (6) years of experience in training and/or communications in the financial services industry or its regulation or in financial literacy education including program management experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
  • A Master's degree in business, finance, education or communications may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience developing and implementing outreach and educational programs.
  • Experience in communications or public relations.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. 
  • Experience in Social Media.
  • Experience presenting to the public. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
