THE POSITION
The State of ConnecticutDepartment of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a Clinical Neuropsychologist to join their team!  

This position will partner with the clinical team to implement and deliver an integrated outpatient behavioral health care plan, assist with diagnostic clarification, and help develop transition plans for clients discharging from DMHAS long term inpatient beds to community living. This position will support DMHAS’s mission in promoting client’s recovery in a least restrictive setting and improving the individual’s quality of care with community integration.

      PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

      In a state facility, this class is accountable for providing neuropsychological assessment and treatment to clients of the facility or program, as well as consultation to professional staff regarding evaluation, management, and treatment of individuals with suspected or confirmed neurological or neurobehavioral conditions.

      EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

      Conducts assessments, treatments, evaluations and consultations on complex assessment cases or those which there may be a neurological, neuropsychological, or neurobehavioral component requiring specialized neuropsychological evaluations; Accepts referrals from outpatient and inpatient services and acts as a liaison with clinical teams, psychiatrists, psychologists, primary care providers, and unit staff to convey recommendations and provide education related to specific patient assessment or management needs; may develop and provide individualized and/or group cognitive remediation services; may provide training, education and clinical supervision to program/facility interns, and other staff members; prepares reports and correspondence; performs related duties as required. May facilitate group and/or individual therapy services as warranted at the discretion of the supervisor. 

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

      Considerable knowledge of neuropsychological assessment, including choosing and administering procedures and instruments, interpreting and reporting findings, and developing related recommendations and treatment plans; considerable diagnostic knowledge of neurological and neurobehavioral disorders; considerable knowledge of abnormal and clinical psychology and the intersection between psychiatric and neurological factors; considerable knowledge of psychological research design, data analysis and application of results; considerable interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills; considerable ability to develop and direct training programs; considerable teaching ability; supervisory ability.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

      A Doctorate degree in clinical psychology and three (3) years of post-doctoral experience as a licensed clinical psychologist.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness
      • Experience in the creation and implementation of Behavioral Plans 

      SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

      1. Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license to practice psychology in Connecticut. Any person employed by the State of Connecticut prior to July 1, 1985 with a title in the psychology series of the classified services shall be exempt from the above licensure requirements pursuant to Public Act 613, Section 119(c). For certain positions, the appointing authority may require State licensure.  
      2. Incumbents in this class must have completed an American Psychological Association (APA) approved internship, including a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology; or have obtained board certification (or proof of current eligibility for board certification) in Neuropsychology (through the American Board of Professional Psychology/American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology (ABPP-ABCN) or American Board of Professional Neuropsychology (ABN)).  
      3. Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f). 
      4. Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language. 
      5. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
