Selection Plan

In order to be considered for this job opening you must be a current State of CT employee of the agency listed above for at least six (6) months of full-time service or full-time equivalent service, absent any applicable collective bargaining language, and meet the Minimum Qualifications as listed on the job opening.  You must specify your qualifications on your application.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing the most complex tasks in the preparation of tracings, drawings, maps, plans, specifications and details from sketches and notes for projects.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Prepares and reviews the most complex drawings, plans and specifications for building and related projects; 
  • Collects and uses field data; 
  • Prepares the most complex designs and details; 
  • Reviews sets of drawings and plans prepared by assigned drafters for completeness and accuracy; 
  • Prepares cost estimates for construction and renovation projects; 
  • Utilizes computer aided design equipment (CADD); 
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of architectural drafting; 
  • Knowledge of
    • specification writing; 
    • algebra, geometry and trigonometry; 
    • building construction methods, materials, and specifications; 
    • and skill in the use of computer aided design equipment;
  • Considerable
    • interpersonal skills;
    • skill in the preparation of very difficult drawings and details; 
  • Ability to utilize computer software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of experience in architectural drafting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in the design and specification aspects of architectural drafting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College or technical school training in architectural drafting or design, civil engineering drafting or civil engineering may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience/training:
  • Familiarity with Autocad software
  • Experience working with events in a higher education setting
